Personal Licence Holders

The Level – 2 Award for Personal Licence Holders (ALPH) is a government-approved course (generic) regulated by Ofqual and accredited by a recognized awarding body. It is aimed at people who want to work in the sales or supply of alcohol at any licensed premises, including a pub, Club, off-license, Supermarket, or even a hotel.

Our one-day course has been designed to meet the statutory requirements, it covers everything you should know about personal license holders’ responsibilities under Licensing Act 2003 and the duties of Designated Premises Supervisor (DPS). The day will also include information on licensing authorities and how they operate under government legislation relating to licensed premises; this will be followed by lunch.

Personal Licence

When you seek qualifications required for licensing purposes, you must apply for a license from your local council/licensing authority.

Just send all these documents accompanied by the application form:

  • Certification- Level 2 Award for Licence Holders (APLH).

  • DBS check (replaces CRB)- DBS checks can be applied online at disclosurescotland.co.uk at £25 per certificate. Please note: this DBS Check’s validity lasts only 28 days before applying for a license).

  • Two Passport Size Photos- Signed by a professional to verify the identity of the applicant

  • Application Fee Payable to Licensing Authority – £37 for the UK.


All this must be submitted to your local council (where you live) when applying for an alcohol sales license.
